Public schools do not cut arts funding because they want to. We all know how valuable music education is to young people, giving them the tools they need to focus, collaborate, and express themselves. And yet, too often, our school districts are forced to make hard decisions that affect the well-being of students.
Groton Hill is dedicated to stepping in and helping to address the crisis of music education access in under-resourced communities. We send professional teachers, instruments, and programs to Lowell, Lawrence, Leominster, Fitchburg, and Clinton – all at no cost to the students or districts. With the help of donors like you, we’re giving students the chance to learn in new and creative ways.
Sharing the Transformative Power of Music
Music is an experience. We play. We listen. We come together. Groton Hill is proud to serve over 2100 students as the region’s premier community music school, focused on transformational opportunities on our world-class stages and inviting global touring artists into many of our programs.
But that’s not enough. Too many of our public school students have been denied music education because districts have had to make painful budget cuts. Often, a young person’s first exposure to instruments can come as late as 9th grade, if at all, making it harder to fully incorporate the many benefits of music education into their lives.
Groton Hill has formed long-term partnerships with six under-resourced school districts to provide a variety of stable educational programs aimed at getting instruments into student hands at an early and influential age. Our teachers work in the school districts of Lowell, Lawrence, Leominster, Fitchburg, and Clinton, as well as in Boys & Girls Clubs, to teach strings, brass, percussion, and music production.
By getting instruments into the hands of these students and partnering them with teachers who care deeply about their growth and well-being, Groton Hill is fulfilling its mission to share the transformative power of music with everyone in need. But we can’t do it without your support!
