Live on the Lawn: Ali McGuirk

Sunday, August 11, 2024 —  5:00 pm
Roots Rock in Live on the Lawn

“With all the hooks of Lake Street Dive but more earthy tenderness and smart introspection, McGuirk will be the Bay State’s next big export.” – Boston Herald

Blending classic soul power with a folk songwriter lyricism, New England’s Ali McGuirk has the rare ability to silence a room with just a few words of a song. With a voice that is raw and sultry and a style rooted in improvisation, her sets are a hypnotic and intimate journey.

Growing up just outside Boston, McGuirk doesn’t remember a time when she didn’t want to be a singer. By college, after a couple decades of absorbing ’90s r&b,’70s singer-songwriters and classic soul of every era, McGuirk found her own aesthetic: earthy, pure, propelled by a voice capable of whispering dark truths or belting out big hooks on her originals. Boston responded with a wave of love.  Her first album Slow Burn racked up nominations and wins at both the Boston Music Awards and New England Music Awards. Her standing-room-only residency at Somerville’s Bull McCabe’s Pub delivered electric performances. On her Signature Sounds Recordings debut ’Til It’s Gone, McGuirk delivers a sublime set of songs that pairs her trademark soul sound with rootsy turns and raw rock ‘n’ roll detours. The album landed on the Boston Globe’s Top 50 Albums list for 2022.

With Special Guest: Kimon Kirk Trio

“There’s a million favorite things about Kimon to mention, but top of my list is his way of fusing all things pop, classic rock and folk into his songs and sound.” — Lori McKenna

Bassist, singer-songwriter-guitarist, and producer Kimon Kirk has toured and recorded with the likes of Gaby Moreno, Aimee Mann, Alejandro Escovedo, Session Americana, Amy Correia, Grant-Lee Phillips, and Sarah Borges, and penned songs with Grammy-winners Mann and Lori McKenna.
