Traditional in The Concert Hall

Two trad luminaries in an intimate and unique collaborative performance!

“(Seamus Egan is) one of the Titans of Irish-American music.” – Gordon Potter, Living Tradition

“(Maeve Gilchrist is) a phenomenal harp player who can make her instrument ring with unparalleled purity.” – concert review

Multi-instrumentalist Seamus Egan is one of the most influential artists in traditional Irish music today, and one of the leading composers and interpreters of the tradition. A founder of the Irish-American powerhouse band Solas, Egan has inspired multiple generations of musicians and helped define the sound of Irish music today, putting his mark on the sound of the Irish flute, tenor banjo, guitar, mandolin, tin whistle, and low whistle, among others. As a composer, he was behind the soundtrack for the award-winning film The Brothers McMullen, co-wrote Sarah McLachlan’s breakout hit, “I Will Remember You,” and has scored numerous documentaries and indie films since.

Described by one critic as “a phenomenal harp player who can make her instrument ring with unparalleled purity,” harpist, singer, composer, and producer Maeve Gilchrist has taken the Celtic (lever) harp to new levels of performance and visibility. Born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, and currently based in Brooklyn, New York, Maeve‘s innovative approach to her instrument stretches its harmonic limits and improvisational possibilities. Maeve is a member of the prestigious Silkroad Ensemble, and tours internationally as a band leader as well as maintaining a number of collaborations including the progressive folk quartet, DuoDuo, cellist Natalie Haas and Yann Falquet of Quebecois super-group Genticorum), and others, and has played with such luminaries as Yo-Yo Ma, Esperanza Spalding, Tony Trishka, Ambrose Akinmusire, Darol Anger and Kathy Mattea. Maeve has released five albums to date, and was a featured soloist on the Dreamworks blockbuster movie soundtrack, How to Tame Your Dragon: The Hidden World, in 2018.
