Metropolitan Mountain Top Celebration

20th Annual Summer Metropolitan Flute Festival Orchestra — Paige Dashner Long, Director

With works by Coleridge-Taylor, Cohen, Long, Anderson, Raff, LeBow, and more, the audience will be treated to “mountain top” music as the ensemble is preparing a concert tour in Switzerland soon after their Groton Hill appearance. From Swiss composer Joachim Raff’s “Dance of the Dryads” from his alpine forest symphony to Leonard LeBow’s exciting “Ride the Matterhorn,” listeners will be transported to the idyllic countryside of the Swiss Alps. In addition, several American composers will be featured during this celebratory concert.

The Metropolitan Flute Orchestra is comprised of highly trained flutists who perform on multiple flutes spanning an amazing seven octaves, including piccolo, concert flute, alto flute, bass flute, contrabass flute, sub contrabass flute, and the rare Kotato double contrabass flute—one of four in the world! This select ensemble has performed for prestigious events in New England and throughout the United States, and has presented concert tours in England, Scotland, Iceland, France, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Belgium and Luxembourg. From classical and sacred literature to jazz, folk songs and show tunes, the ensemble has been delighting audiences since 1998.
