Saxophonist Ian Buss has over 15 years of experience teaching music to students of all ages and backgrounds. Ian has held positions at Palomar College, the Young Lions Jazz Conservatory, the UCSD Jazz Camp, and various public schools.
Additionally, Ian maintains an active performance career. The Ian Buss Quartet presented a concert for a United Nations conference in New York City, and has appeared across the US, Canada, and Mexico. As a sideperson, Ian has performed with the Temptations, The Four Tops, Buddy Guy, Yoron Israel, Ken Schaphorst, Mehmet Sanlikol, Gilbert Castellanos, Jon Faddis, and others.
Ian previously toured with Grammy-nominated singer Sugaray Rayford, which led to headliner performances at festivals such as Bluesapalooza, Columbia Pike Blues Festival, and Big Bull Falls Blues Fest. The Sugaray Rayford Band was nominated for Band of the Year at the Blues Music Awards. Ian appears as a featured soloist on numerous commercial recording projects, including albums by Seulah Noh, Henry Godfrey, and a forthcoming Yoron Israel High Standards release. He also participated in the prestigious Banff Centre’s Workshop for Jazz & Contemporary Music, directed by Vijay Iyer and Tyshawn Sorey.
