Teaching Philosophy

Jared takes his eclectic experiences with him as a teacher and enjoys sharing his knowledge of jazz, classical, and commercial composition. He believes in guiding students towards their aspirations, delving into their influences, and broadening their foundations to help them have long and fruitful creative lives. Jared strives to spark the student’s imagination with the right balance of structure and possibility.

Jared Burrell has worked as a trumpeter, composer, and orchestrator. His releases include the original soundtracks for NBA Life by Kentucky-based video game publisher Hit Cents and Shock Jocks by Boston-based independent video game designer Michael Andryauskas. He has also written for wind band and trumpet ensemble. As an orchestrator, Jared collaborated with composer Vincent Diamonte on the soundtrack for the video game Sky, by That Game Company, which was briefly the #1 top-selling album in Japan in August 2020. He has joined our Community Engagement faculty in our Lawrence Public Schools partnership program and teaches electronic music.
