Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Euphonium
Steve Savage

Teaching Philosophy

Steve teaches students of all ages (including adults) on trumpet, trombone, and euphonium. He has a lot of experience with young brass players with orthodontic problems and works closely with many local band directors in making sure these students are given the best chance to have success. As a longtime school band director, he understands the need for students to be successful in competing in music festivals as well as being successful at school.

Education

B.M., New England Conservatory. Principal teachers: Gerard Goguen and John Coffey

Bio

Steve Savage retired as Music Director for the Ayer and Groton-Dunstable Public Schools and has been active in music education associations throughout his career. A former principal trumpet for the Civic Symphony of Boston, he was formerly on the faculty at the South End Music Center and the Windsor School in Boston. He was also the soprano horn line instructor with the Boston Crusaders Drum Corp (1963–1968) and Director of the St. Agnes CYO Band in Arlington.

For over 30 years, Steve was an adjudicator for the Central District Music Festivals, Allstate, and the New Hampshire Festivals. Most recently, he has been the Elementary Schools Band Director for Acton Public Schools and director of the Acton Community Summer Band. An interesting side note is that Steve started as a saxophone player and studied with many noteworthy teachers for 10 years before playing brass instruments. His interests outside of music include fishing, raising dogs, and anything mechanical that needs fixing!
