Groton Hill Flute Orchestra: ‘Tis the Season

Celebrate the season with festive flutes!

The Groton Hill Flute Orchestra’s season opener welcomes guest percussionists Alison Hannah and Jim Felker to perform Todd Coleman’s “Wind Dance.” Also brought to the front of the stage are soloists from the flute orchestra for Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Benedictus” from his Oratorio de Noël and for the American hymn “I Wonder as I Wander.” Audience members are sure to enjoy the variety of flute choir gems and seasonal favorites! Led by Director Nicole O’Toole.

Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite contains some of the most beloved and familiar melodies in the Western world. Mr Sun (Darol Anger, fiddle; Joe K. Walsh, mandolin; Grant Gordy, guitar; and Aidan O’Donnell, bass) has seized upon the inspiration of Duke Ellington’s brilliant, sly, and urbane re-interpretation of the Suite as an opportunity to salute and re-invent this wildly multi-faceted work anew through the lens of the American String Band, a musical form which contains myriad styles and is presently engaged in a marathon upheaval of innovation and expansion.

For the month of December, Americana powerhouse Nefesh Mountain is hitting the road on the Love And Light Tour.
