Director, Teen Rock One & Two
Guitarist and composer Jeff O’Brien has been performing and teaching professionally for over twenty years, including self-producing, releasing, and performing original music since 1996. Having studied both classical and jazz guitar in addition to his background in rock, he is a sought-after freelance guitarist for engagements all over New England and beyond. Equally at home playing classical guitar for a wedding ceremony, modern jazz at a reception, classic rock in an arena, or avant-garde noise-rock in a club, Jeff is adept at switching between different musical styles on a dime—and synthesizing them into unique and powerful presentations. He is a member of the Boston-based commercial bands Thirty6Red, and Richie Rich & 24 Karat Funk. Jeff is also the founder, lead guitarist, lead vocalist, and principal songwriter of the prog-rock group Kave Kraft, which to date has released two EPs and one full-length album, and has performed at numerous venues across the region.
Director, Teen Jazz Ensemble & Just In Time
Doug Harrison has pursued double bass performance and education as both a jazz and classical bassist. Studying classical bass performance as an undergraduate and Contemporary Performance in Global Jazz for his graduate studies, he brings a holistic approach to his students. For his Masters Degree, Doug has recorded an album of original music, and is creating a “Global Jazz Bass Method” for his students that balances ear training, harmony, and melody. This method emphasizes creating bass lines based on the sounds that students hear and create themselves.
Director, Saxophone Ensemble
Mike Caudill is a Boston-based saxophonist and composer who leads his own band and freelances with multiple groups across New England. As a performer, he has played in a variety of spaces, including Boston’s Symphony Hall; Worcester’s Mechanic’s Hall; Sculler’s Jazz Club and Ryle’s Jazz Club in Boston; and New York City venues including Birdland; The Jazz Gallery; Dizzy’s Club at Lincoln Center; and the National Sawdust Theater. At UMass, Mike appeared with iconic jazz figures like Sean Jones, Ambrose Akinmusire, Warren Wolf, Randy Brecker, Dick Oatts, Dave Liebman, Sheila Jordan, and Karrin Allyson, as well as with the acclaimed alternative rock group, “10,000 Maniacs.”
In addition to writing for his own groups and on commission, Mike has received recognition as a composer from the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers); Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer program; Ithaca College Jazz Composition Contest; 360 Degree Jazz Initiative at UNC Chapel Hill; and Jâca Music’s Emerging Composers Competition.
Director, Passler Jazz/Rock Ensemble 1 “Local 206” & Passler Jazz/Rock Ensemble 2 “The Hill Raisers”
Multifaceted guitarist/composer Greg Passler has recorded and performed in a wide variety of styles — from experimental ambient soundscapes to acoustic jazz. As a member of the rock band Childhood, he appeared on MTV and recorded on the British record label Barracuda Blue. As part of the experimental instrumental group Magonia, he licensed an extensive music catalog for television and film, with compositions featured in dramatic, documentary and reality TV formats. Greg’s solo recordings have been featured in Guitar Player and Guitar magazines, and his latest CD release, Unframed (2014S), is an eclectic collection of his original jazz compositions performed on acoustic guitar. Along with fellow Groton Hill Music faculty member Jamie Dunphy, Greg has performed and recorded original jazz with the popular Boston-based Mill City Trio. In addition to his work at Groton Hill Music, he also teaches guitar at Groton School.

Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Aaron Jay Myers is an active professional composer, performer, improviser, and teacher with commissions and performances across the country. He is a founding member of Equilibrium Ensemble, served as Executive Director from 2015–2018, and served as its Managing Director until its end in 2020. He was Music Director for the Second Sunday Concert Series from 10/17 through 12/18. He is the founder of the hardcore/doom metal/thrash band, Niffin, and founder of the avant-metal band, Kraanerg. With several albums already available, he has a new album of chamber works being released on June 4, 2020 by the New York based record label New Focus Recordings.
Director, Jazz Lab Band & Fox Jazz Ensemble
An in-demand percussion educator and clinician in the Boston area, Dave is chair of the Groton Hill Music School Percussion and Jazz Departments. For the past two decades, he has worked with a wide variety of acts in a diverse range of styles in the Greater Boston area and all over New England. For over ten years, Dave has toured nationally and abroad with three-time Grammy Award winning songwriter, producer, and musician Tom Hambridge and his band The Rattlesnakes. He is a current member of Boston rock legends The Stompers, Andrew Stern’s “AS3,” and The Gravel Project. When not performing as a sideman, Dave leads his own jazz quartet featuring Ken Clark on the Hammond B-3 organ, Bill Jones on sax, and Phil Grenadier on trumpet; and an acoustic trio featuring Grenadier and bassist Bruno Raberg. He is an endorser of Vic Firth Drumsticks, exclusively.
Director, Spectrum Jazz Ensemble
Pamela Hines is a prolific and consistent presence in American jazz as a pianist and composer. She has received national and international critical acclaim for her edgy instrumental compositions as well as jazz originals. Pamela has had three CDs chart on Jazzweek and was a guest on Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland in 2000. She has also composed jazz vocal originals for three complete CDs, including a Holiday album. Pamela has appeared at Scullers, Les Zygomates, Thelonious Monkfish (renamed Mad Monkfish), Prudential Summer Music Series, Boston Harbor Summer Music Series, New Haven Jazzfest, The Duplex, Mechanics Hall, Ryles and hundreds of clubs and festivals on the east coast, including New York City, Richmond and Norfolk, in her 30-plus year career. Additionally, she has played with many greats, including Jerry Bergonzi, David Clark, John Lockwood, Elias Bailey, Bob Guilotti, Yoron Israel, Darren Barrett, Greg Abate, and many more.
