20th Annual Summer Metropolitan Flute Festival Orchestra

The 20th Annual Summer Metropolitan Flute Festival Orchestra, July 11-14, 2024 is a unique ensemble performance opportunity for university, advanced amateur and professional flutists concluding with a gala concert in the world class Concert Hall at Groton Hill Music Center on July 14. Utilizing the entire flute family from piccolo to double contrabass flute, the ensemble will perform a wide variety of interesting and exciting music. Performing alongside esteemed colleagues, participants create an astounding musical experience for all. Director Paige Dashner Long will bring her extensive flute collection, including her Kotato double contrabass flute, and will select participants to use them during the weekend.
Participation in the 20th Annual Summer Metropolitain Flute Festival Orchestra is available by audition only. Learn more about the audition process below, registration links will be sent to accepted students upon review of their audition.
Performance 7/14 at 5pm in the Concert Hall
Paige Dashner Long is an internationally recognized flute choir director, contrabass flutist and award winning composer. She has led workshops and directed flute ensembles for music schools in France, Germany and Mexico, as well as for universities and flute associations throughout America. She performs with the International Flute Orchestra and the Daytona Solisti Chamber Orchestra, and is the director of the Chamber Players of Palm Coast. She is part of the music faculty at Daytona State College in Daytona Beach, FL and maintains a private flute studio. In addition to her flute activities, she is the director of music at Palm Coast United Methodist Church in Palm Coast, FL.

Saturday, July 13 9:30-noon; 1:00-3:30pm (lunch on site from noon -1:00pm)
Sunday, July 14 2:00-4:00pm extended warm-up for 5:00pm concert
Students will need to email a recent video or audio file(s). Please select something that best represents your musical skill and artistry, including both technical and lyrical passages. It’s fine to submit one piece, or two shorter pieces. Also helpful is a letter describing your performance and ensemble experience, with a repertoire list of pieces most recently studied or performed.
Community adults and professional flutists should email their flute resume or letter describing training, performance experience and ensemble experience. Video or audio files are not required, but helpful.
