With a catchy rock score from Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, The Bridges of Madison County) and a hilarious book by Tony winner Robert Horn (Tootsie, Shucked) and Dan Elish (13), 13 JR. tells a timeless story about fitting in – and standing out.

Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents’ divorce. Now the new kid at school, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain… or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!?

A true coming-of-age musical, 13 JR. is made especially for adolescents with a universal message about friendship and being true to yourself.

MEET OUR FACULTY

Sam Evans

Musical Director

Sam Evans was born and raised in California’s Silicon Valley and works across the Greater Boston Area as a teaching artist, director, choreographer, playwright, and dramaturg. She holds a B.A. in Theatre Studies and a triple minor in English, Education, and Philosophy from Chapman University; and an M.A. in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre from Emerson College. During the academic year, she directs and choreographs productions at Wellesley Theatre Project and Apollinaire Theatre Company, and is a paraprofessional for a first grade class. Sam’s teaching philosophy is to use theatre to create opportunities for children to grow as both confident performers and caring community members.

Bebe Wood

Acting Coach

Bebe Wood is a Cuban-American actor, musician, and songwriter from Kansas City, MO. She started acting professionally when she was 10 years old with one of her first roles playing opposite Tina Fey in an episode of 30 ROCK. More recently, she starred as Gretchen Wieners in Fey’s Mean Girls movie musical. Bebe is best known for her roles as Lake on Hulu’s critically praised Love, Victor, Shania in Ryan Murphy’s The New Normal and Shannon on ABC’s The Real O’Neals. She has also lent her voice to a plethora of Guillermo del Toro’s animated series and films in the Tales of Arcadia universe.

Daon Drisdom

Music Director

Tenor Daon Drisdom, a Georgia native and New England Conservatory graduate, is celebrated for his rich tone and captivating stage presence. Known for his versatility across baritone and tenor repertoires, Drisdom has brought to life characters ranging from Papageno in Mozart’s The Magic Flute to Fritz in Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz. He performs frequently with various Boston-area music organizations, making a distinctive mark on the local arts scene.

A passionate storyteller, Drisdom has a deep affinity for art songs and spirituals within the Black music repertoire. He is dedicated to sharing and interpreting these musical traditions, striving to deepen audiences’ understanding of their style and stories.

Drisdom’s collaborations include performances with esteemed artists such as Greg Hopkins and the Greg Hopkins Orchestra, where he interpreted selections from Duke Ellington’s Sacred Songs, as well as jazz trombonist Wycliffe Gordon in a holiday special for Georgia Public Broadcasting Radio. He is featured as a soloist on Funmilayo Ngozi’s Unconstrained album and has contributed to Trey McLaughlin & the Sounds of Zamar on YouTube.

Are payment plans available?

Yes! Groton Hill Music Center allows you to split payments into three installments for this program. You are required to have an active card on file. When registering, simply select “Deposit” instead of “Pay In Full” and your credit will be automatically charged on this schedule:

$200 nonrefundable deposit, charged immediately upon registration.
$600 due July 1
$575 due August 1

Is lunch provided?

Lunch and snacks are NOT provided. Students must bring enough food for 2 snack breaks and lunch. We will provide a nut-free lunch table for students with allergies.

Refund Policy

Refunds for summer programs are granted on a case-by-case basis. All details can be found in the “Withdrawals and Refunds” section of Policies and Procedures in the link below.
